Student Stories – Year 3: Learning About Waste and Recycling

Our next Student Story is about Year 3 pupils at Great Hollands Primary School, who took part in an engaging whole-school assembly led by Harry from Grundon — learning about waste, recycling, and what happens to the things we throw away.

The assembly brought together children from across the primary age range. Harry judged the content well for all ages, using slides and animations that helped pupils understand how waste is processed and why recycling matters.

The children were full of questions, and Harry answered each one patiently. Many pupils learnt something new — from how rubbish is sorted, to how items can be reused in ways they hadn’t expected.

A highlight of the session was the level of enthusiasm shown by the pupils. Their curiosity has already sparked interest in taking the learning further, with the Green Team set to explore new eco-projects in school.

A huge thank you goes to Harry, who has offered to support small-group projects in the future.

Year 3, you showed real curiosity throughout the session, and it came through in every question you asked. A fantastic achievement.
