Community Champion: Conrad Nevers

This Community Champion story highlights Conrad Nevers, SEND Link Governor at Maiden Erlegh School, whose work supports stronger early identification and a consistent graduated approach for pupils with emerging additional needs.

In his role on the School Advisory Board, Conrad works closely with the SENDCo, helping to ensure that SEND remains a clear strategic priority. The Board monitors how early identification, classroom support and inclusive practice impact pupil progress and wellbeing across the school.

“Inclusion is the foundation of a school culture where every child belongs and every family feels heard.”

Conrad’s connection to the school is both professional and personal. All four of his children have attended Maiden Erlegh School, and he has seen first-hand the impact that a strong, inclusive culture can have on confidence and long-term outcomes. While his own children did not require SEND support, members of his extended family have benefitted from it, shaping his commitment to this area of governance.

As a parent governor, he is motivated by ensuring that stakeholder voices are heard at board level. He believes the School Advisory Board plays an important role in bringing family perspectives into strategic discussions, so that decisions are grounded in lived experience.

Conrad’s professional background in consultancy has also influenced his approach. He brings experience of working collaboratively, listening carefully and supporting teams to deliver complex work. He sees his role not as directing leaders, but enabling them — through constructive challenge, clarity and shared purpose.

Reflecting on the MET value that most closely aligns with his work, Conrad chose Be Inclusive. For him, inclusion is not a standalone initiative but the foundation of a school where every pupil feels seen, supported and able to thrive.

Looking ahead, Conrad remains committed to continuing his work on the School Advisory Board and contributing to the school’s inclusive ethos in whatever capacity is needed.
