New Hub Director for Special Education — Neil Strain

We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Neil Strain as our new Director of Special Education at Maiden Erlegh Trust starting September 2025.

Neil brings almost 10 years of experience as a Headteacher of a large, complex setting — and a proven track record of improving outcomes for children and young people through inclusive leadership, curriculum innovation and high-quality care.

At Maiden Erlegh Trust, Neil will support the leadership and development of all our Specialist and Alternative Provision schools. He will work alongside Headteachers to ensure that every child and young person receives the education, support and opportunities they need to succeed. This includes helping schools refine their curriculum, strengthen teaching strategies and ensure support is carefully tailored to individual learners.

Neil will also lead our multi-disciplinary therapy team, working closely with schools to strengthen support for children with additional needs. He will play a key role in embedding inclusive practice across the Trust — supporting staff to deepen their understanding of different needs and helping ensure every learner is well supported to thrive.

Neil’s appointment reflects our commitment to inclusion and our values of aiming high, being inclusive, and working together, as well as our ambition to ensure that every child has the best possible chance to thrive.

We’re thrilled to welcome Neil to our community, and we look forward to the positive difference he will make for our schools, staff, families and children.
