Student Stories: River Academy Students Win Awards in UK Mathematics Challenge

A total of 135 River Academy students took part in the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Maths Challenge, challenging themselves to apply their mathematical knowledge to a series of demanding and unfamiliar problems.

River Academy students achieved an impressive 91 awards between them, a fantastic result in a competition designed to stretch and challenge young mathematicians.

A leading national mathematics competition, the UK Maths Challenge encourages critical thinking and is designed to stretch students beyond the classroom curriculum. The challenge rewards problem solving, accuracy, perseverance and mathematical thinking and recognises high-performing students by awarding Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates.

Andy Hartley, Headteacher, said:

"I'm delighted that so many of our students took part. The Maths Challenge gave them the opportunity to test their mathematical thinking, apply their knowledge in different ways and persevere when faced with difficult problems. A turnout of 135 students and the achievement of 91 awards is a wonderful recognition of our students' commitment and willingness to challenge themselves. I was particularly pleased with the high number of gold and kangaroo awards that we achieved which confirms the impact of our stretching curriculum”.

A huge well done to all 135 students who took part and represented River Academy in the challenge. We are very proud of your achievements.
