Ofsted recognises significant progress at Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge

Ofsted has recognised the significant progress made by Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge, highlighting improvements in teaching, leadership, national examination outcomes and the quality of education students receive.

The inspection was carried out under Ofsted's new inspection framework, which no longer results in a single overall grade. Instead, inspectors evaluate how well schools are meeting expected standards across a range of areas.

Inspectors found that “Across the curriculum, pupils achieve well.” The report highlighted improvements in national examination outcomes at the end of key stage 4 in 2025 compared to previous years, greater consistency in teaching and the curriculum, and the positive impact of the actions taken by school leaders, supported by Maiden Erlegh Trust.

Inspectors also recognised the contribution of Maiden Erlegh Trust in supporting the school noting that Trust support has strengthened teachers' subject expertise and contributed to improved achievement across the curriculum and in national examinations. They also recognised the positive culture across the school, noting that pupils “are respectful to each other” and “are typically attentive and want to learn,” while acknowledging the work underway to strengthen attendance and provide support for students who need it most.

The inspection confirms that expected standards were met across achievement, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing. Safeguarding standards were also confirmed as met.

The report reflects the progress made by Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge and the commitment, professionalism and high expectations of the staff, leaders and governors who have driven it. It also recognises the role of Maiden Erlegh Trust in supporting the school through effective leadership, governance and the development of teaching and subject expertise.

Congratulations to Emma Bliss, everyone at Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge and all those across Maiden Erlegh Trust who have supported the school on this positive inspection outcome. It is the collective commitment of everyone in the Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge community that sits behind the school's progress and the positive difference that supports students every day.
